Friday and the “New” Era really begins….

Just IN!!!  The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) announced today that the Association has entered into an agreement in principle to sell the sanctioning, promotional and management rights for its AMA Pro Racing properties to the Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG), based in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Daytona Motorsports Group will run and manage ALL of the major Pro Series, which is NOT the word that we had here at SMO! Wow!! Read the full announcement here

Also….speaking of season’s…...the FIM announced some changes to their 2008 Calendar this past weekend. The biggest news on THIS side of the pond last week was the announcement of the TroyLee Designs lineup, and what was rumor is now fact…..the TLD gang announced that Jeff Ward ended his brief retirement to ride again in 2008!!! Jeff says in the press release that he wasn’t happy ending his career the way it went in 2007 and is focused on another championship. Cassidy Anderson, will once again pilot the other CRF450 in an attempt to unseat the current King, Graves Yamaha’s, Mark Burkhart. Troy Lee himself will pilot a 250 in the Lites class, but there’s been some hot rumors as to another Lites rider, and like last year, you can, at the very least, expect some star studded cameo’s in TLD’s Lites lineup.  Alsooo we already reported here that last years Lites star, and TLD rider, David Pingree will be on a Kawasaki for ’08.

Preparations are coming along great for the first round. The track layout at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, where the first round will be run alongside the Moto-X World Championship, has been mapped and sounds like it’ll be very cool for BOTH the riders and spectators. More on that as well as hopefully an actual layout map soon!!

On the “other side” of the pond, our man, Misseur Sylvain Bidart, flying an SMO sticker on his Cross2R/LA FUEL Energy Drink/Husqvarna, won a very well attended….(over 12,000) “indoor” Tours Supermoto race in France, a week ago, that included the Chambon brothers, David Baffeleuf, Emery, and a bunch more FIM talent! Way to go Sylvain!!!

Ok……back to work here and if YOU want to help support SMO and the sport of Supermoto you should have a copy of the worlds only Supermoto Bikes and Babes Calendar… or….pick up your choice of apparel and other cool stuff you can get right here at the SMO Retail Store!!!
